“We are extremely pleased and excited to unveil our EV-DO wireless modem products to the wireless community at this global technology exhibition. Last year’s Bangkok International Expo, the biggest event of its kind held in Thailand, was an overwhelming success. According to the Expo organizers, this year’s edition of the Bangkok International ICT Expo promises to be the year’s leading ASEAN Marketplace of ‘Information and Communication Technology for the Next Generation of Living.’ In 2004, the event attracted over 5,000 overseas trade visitors and 227,000 avid ICT consumers from throughout the world,” stated O.C. Kim, the president of Franklin Wireless. “Which is why we have great expectations for this event, ” he added. “The fact that our products will be displayed at the QUALCOMM booth gives us quite an advantage. The wireless community will get the first glimpse of the USB wireless modem based on QUALCOMM’s EV-DO technology. As far as we are aware, Franklin is the first company to launch such products in the wireless market space.”
All three Franklin products that will be displayed at this event are based on QUALCOMM’s chipset solution and capable of transferring data at a speed up to 2 Mbps. Since these are dual-band products (both 800MHz. and 1900MHz.), they are most suitable for the US and Latin American markets where both frequencies are being used.
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is an International Telecommunications Union (ITU) approved international 3G wireless communications standard that offers peak data rates of up to 2.4 megabits per second (Mbps) in a standard 1.25 megahertz (MHz) channel used exclusively for data. EV-DO is the next evolution of CDMA2000 1X, and is “data optimized,” providing higher data rates, greater system capacity and lower costs, making wireless broadband and convergence possible.
To date, 18 operators in 12 countries have launched EV-DO services, providing high-speed data services to more than 14 million subscribers (Source: 3GToday.com).
